Once again KSWB, the FOX television affiliate in San Diego, treats a gaffe with good humor. And regarding Meat Loaf and meatloaf—just for the record—I actually enjoy a piece of each.

The singer, though, not so much with gravy.

Remember ALF on NBC? Get Ready for a New Human-Puppet Television Series

Just prior to the opening of the new Muppets movie on November 23rd, a new hybrid human-puppet project to be titled The New Nabors has been announced by the Jim Henson Company and NBC. The script deal has been signed; the show has been greenlighted.

Do you remember the TV show, ALF, on NBC in the 1980s? It’s that kind of a human-meets-puppet project. ALF was highly successful for the network at the time. John Hoffman (Afterlife) and John Riggi (executive producer, 30 Rock) will pen the The New Nabors script.

Lisa Henson, Hoffman and Riggi are executive producing, with longtime Henson producer Alex Rockwell also on board. Hoffman was represented by CAA and UTA-represented Riggi. Both are managed by Anonymous.

The series title is a tip-'o-the-hat to Jim Nabors.

Order Take-out Thanksgiving Dinner in Baltimore? You Can.

I've really never thought of ordering a complete Thanksgiving dinner or any other holiday meal.

If you've read this blog for more than a week or two, you know that Jacob and I cook. We cook a lot.

Wegmans Turkey

The other day I heard the nicest lady ask a question at the front desk, "Do you know where I can find a Thanksgiving dinner to order and have delivered or maybe one that I could pick-up"? Apparently she has grandchildren coming to visit her for the holiday. 

I thought I'd check into it. Somehow, after hearing her ask the question, it seemed like a request that lots of people might make and one that needs addressing.

You can order a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner from most supermarkets in Baltimore, there are a few caterers, and a restaurant or two. The price, though, is all over the map. Really, ALL over the map.

Thanksgiving 2010 (names link to the deals):

Giant Food is offering a complete Thanksgiving Dinner that will serve 6-8 for $39.99.

Includes: 10-12 lb Butterball Fully Cooked Turkey,
2-24 oz Giant Homestyle Mashed Potatoes,
1-24 oz Giant Homestyle Stuffing,
1-24 oz Giant Turkey Gravy,
1-14 oz Giant Fresh Cranberry Relish,
12 Dinner Rolls,
and 8" Apple, Pumpkin or Sweet Potato Pie.

Wegmans complete dinner serves 8 - 10 and is priced at $79.99.

Safeway lists three Holiday meal choices that each serve 6-8. Turkey Dinner is $39.99, the Spiral Ham Dinner is $49.99, and their Prime Rib Dinner is $64.99.

Eddies of Roland Park's extensive offerings are a la carte. Their whole roast turkey with stuffing and gravy is $5.49 per pound. The list of sides include an appetizer of bacon wrapped scallops at  $24.99 per dozen, spinach soufflé at $8.49 per pan, and green peas, pearl onions and mushrooms at  $7.49 per pan.

Whole Foods offers a Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner that serves 8 for 129.99 but you have to cook the turkey yourself. Only the sides are cooked and rolls and desert are extra. They also have a fully cooked Dinner for Two priced at $59.99.

Harris Teeter's Thanksgiving Dinner serves 8 - 10 and is $49.99.

Includes: 9-12 lb. Fully Cooked Butterball Turkey,
2 lbs. Fresh Cornbread Dressing,
2 lbs. Fresh Green Bean Supreme,
2 lbs. Fresh Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes,

Classic Catering People have two complete dinners that serve 10. The Traditional Feast is $149. and The Harvest Table is $195. Their 5-page Thanksgiving menu is extensive and you can order a la carte.

Examples include:
Springfield Farm Broad-Breasted Roast Turkey, 14 - 16 pounds, $120. Carving fee is $7.50.
Braised Red Cabbage, Apples, and Mustard Seed, serves 10, $17.95
Fig Chutney, $9.95 per pint
and  Corn Pudding Souffle, serves 10, $25.

And here's an entry in the Thanksgiving Take-out category that made me smile in every good way. Though I couldn't help thinking about BE's biscuits and sausage gravy, perhaps that should be a Thanksgiving breakfast option. I'd be all over it.

Bob Evans Thanksgiving Farmhouse Feast

Bob Evans has a Farmhouse Feast that serves 6 - 8 priced at $74.99. 

Farmhouse Feast with Turkey or HamYour feast includes a slow-roasted whole boneless turkey breast or sliced boneless ham, bread & celery dressing, homestyle mashed potatoes, buttered sweet corn, green beans with ham, cranberry relish, gravy, one dozen rolls, one loaf of pumpkin bread, one whole pumpkin pie and whipped topping. (No weights or quantities provided.)

After reading some of these menus, I'm wondering if next year I shouldn't just turn bone-idle for a day and order. If you have a favorite Holiday take-out that's not here, let me know.
